Pavel Bure moonphase pocket watch (1901)

Marks on the lid, case lids and movement: "Helvetia", "18K", "58752". On the chatelaine: maker's mark "MD", the hallmark of the City of St. Petersburg with the assay number "56"; the T-piece of the Leningrad district assay office with the assay number of "583" after 1927; "ЛЮЗ", "P". The case lid with an enamelled picture of a car with a driver and two lady passengers, inscribed [in Russian] "IIIrd INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOBILE FAIR". On the cuvette inscription [in Russian]: "Paul Burhe, supplier of his Imperial Majesty Court No 58752".

This watch was given as a prize at the 3rd International Automobile Fair held at the Manezh of the Mikhalovsky Palace in St. Petersburg on May, 1910. The fair was commercially successful venture having sold 50 automobiles. This watch is likely to be a gift from the Russian Emperor to one of the participants.

The mechanism has 36 jewels, with a pierced bimetallic balance wheel with screws, spring-powered anchor escapement, single-hand simple-action stop-watch, a minute repeater, remontoir. The watch has a gold chatelaine to be pinned on the breast.
